Our Environmental Officers

Every ship in the Mein Schiff® fleet has an environmental officer on board to monitor compliance with all environmental regulations and voluntary commitments. They oversee environmental issues and processes on board and support the implementation of relevant measures.

    Keeping an eagle eye on standards

    An Environmental Officer´s priority task is monitoring the ship´s compliance with legally binding environmental standards. And the additional standards we set ourselves come on top of that. For instance, they plan and monitor waste disposal, wastewater quality and exhaust emissions values.

    Environmental Officers also monitor onboard water quality, taking regular samples of the drinking water, pool and treated wastewater.

    Everything under control

    With their fellow Ship´s Officers, they check the ship´s voyage plans and agree with the Captain how to comply with the applicable environmental regulations. They work closely with Ship Management in carrying out their highly diverse tasks and advise this function on all statutory environmental matters.

    Getting the crew on board with sustainability

    Environmental Officers not only monitor and advise the ships’ Leadership team but also train the entire crew via our Save the Waves training course.

    Always listening to our cruise guests

    Whenever our passengers have a sustainability-related question, our Environmental Officers are happy to answer these in the Nautical-Technical Q&A Session, or in a personal conversation if the guest prefers this.

It's not just the present that counts but above all the future.

The focus of their work is consistently on “What can we do better?” The Environmental Officers therefore develop ideas and implement these together with the Sustainability team based at our corporate headquarter in Hamburg, Germany. They also motivate the crew to submit their own proposals.
