Waste management

We believe that no waste is the best waste. Nevertheless, on a cruise with many passengers aboard, we cannot completely prevent it. We have given responsible solutions a great deal of thought and approach the topic aligned with the established principle of "avoid, reduce, recycle".

Waste is separated into 40 categories

From beverage cans to plastic bags to cardboard boxes – we collect and separate our waste into 40 different categories directly on board. This facilitates onward transportation ashore, where the waste can ideally be recycled. Our Environmental Officers carefully plan, monitor and document this disposal process.

The WASTELESS project reduces waste

Since the launch of the WASTELESS project, our constant goals are:

  • Avoiding plastics and single-use products as far as possible

  • Replacing plastics with materials made from renewables wherever possible

  • Optimal recycling of unavoidable plastics and single-use items.

We handle food with care

Food is a valuable commodity we don't want to throw away. This why we´ve launched the “Gemeinsam gegen Lebensmittelverschwendung“ (Together Against Food Waste) initiative, in which we advise our cruise guests to choose smaller portions from the buffet and return more often for another helping. The result is less left on the plates. We have also optimized food quantities and buffet arrangements without restricting the rich variety on offer in any way.

    • Frische tropische Früchte auf Buffet, Passionsfrucht, Ananas, Melone.
