In the former industrial town of Val Jalbert, situated on the southern shore of Lac Saint-Jean, time seems to stand still. The 40 or so buildings erected here by the imposing Ouiatchouan waterfall around 1900 for the workers of the former pulp mill seem to have sunk into a deep sleep and were declared a historical monument after the mill closed in 1927.
