Vigo

Vigo is the lively and modern capital of Galicia. It is located in an oversized natural harbour and is still an important fishing location today, thanks to the large seaport. 95% of Spanish fish comes from Vigo. It is therefore no wonder that Galician cuisine is known for seafood of all kinds. The city itself was founded by the Romans and probably served as the starting point for Caesar’s campaign to England. The old town and the charming fishing district of Berbés are particularly worth seeing. Galicia is very different from the rest of Spain – the climate is milder, the landscape greener and the inhabitants of Celtic descent take great pride in preserving their ancestral traditions. Outside Vigo, you can explore the unique scenic beauty of Galicia or immerse yourself in its complex historical past.
