Port Klang (Kuala Lumpur)
These days, container and cruise ships dock at Port Klang, Malaysia’s most important and largest seaport. In the past, this is where tin seekers sailed into the country up the river “Klang” on small boats. In 1857, a small town was built in the middle of the jungle at the point at which the Klang River became too shallow for the small boats to pass – this is today’s Kuala Lumpur with its 1.8 million inhabitants. The city grew, becoming an administrative centre, a road network was laid out and many of the magnificent buildings that still exist today were built. You can see architectural highlights from the past and present, such as the Petronas Twin Towers, right next to each other. In addition, a wide variety of cultures and religions are represented here: mosques, churches, pagodas and temples can be seen throughout the city.
