Patmos
It is said that the rich go to Mykonos to be seen and to Patmos to relax. The small island has managed to retain much of its old charm and has never been a destination for mass tourism. Rather, it is regarded as the place of origin of the New Testament Revelation of John – better known as the Apocalypse. As the so-called ‘Holy Island’, Patmos is the destination of various important pilgrimages by Orthodox Christians every year. The healthy climate and clear air, the delicate coastline with its pretty bays and offshore islands contribute to the pleasant atmosphere. The spiritual centre of the island is one of the most important and richest monasteries of the Greek Orthodox Church. St John’s Monastery, which dates back to the 11th century AD, has also been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. All in all, Patmos is a charming, picturesque and tranquil island with an outstanding tourist attraction – waiting for you to discover it.
