Naples

UNESCO designated the entire old town of Naples a World Heritage Site in 1995. The number of buildings and museums worth seeing is correspondingly high. You will come across historical treasures on every street corner here. Right at the beginning, you will be greeted by the seafront castle “Castel dell’Ovo”, which is enthroned on a rocky outcrop. The “Palazzo Reale”, the former royal palace, which now houses a museum and the national library, is also impressive. The National Library has an impressive book collection totalling two million volumes. The enchanting Amalfi Coast, which lies around 40 kilometres south-east of Naples, is an absolute gem in terms of landscape and takes your breath away. On the way to “Sorrento” you encounter the famous archaeological site of “Pompeii”. The flourishing Roman city was completely buried by the eruption of the volcano “Vesuvius” in 79 AD and is now one of the most perfectly reconstructed ancient archaeological sites in the world. You shouldn’t miss out on time for a break during all your sightseeing, because pizza was famously invented in Naples and still tastes best here today.
