Salalah

The fairytale Sultanate of Oman, covering 309,500 km², enchants with oriental flair. The diverse landscape served as a backdrop for the adventure stories of Sinbad the Sailor. Climatic conditions mean that the area around Salalah is a green oasis in Oman, which is otherwise mostly desert. This is where the ancient Frankincense Route starts. It ran west from Oman via Yemen, Saudi Arabia and Jordan and gave a considerable boost to the Arab economy. The scent of incense is still in the air today with cultivation areas open to visitors.
